WINTERIZATION

WINTER IS COMING

Ready to store your Club Car for the winter? Use the following recommendations to properly go through the long term storage processes for those cold months.

CARBURETED

  • Place the forward/reverse handle in the NEUTRAL position andthe neutral lockout cam in the MAINTENANCE position. 
  • Turn the fuel shut-off valve to the closed OFF position. 
  • Turn the key switch to ON position and run the engine until fuel remaining in the carburetor and fuel lines is depleted and the engine stalls. 
  • Turn the key switch to the OFF position and remove the key. 
  • Return the neutral lockout cam to the OPERATE position.
  • Loosen but do not remove the carburetor drain screw and drain remaining fuel into a clean container. 
  • Pour the fuel from the container into the vehicle’s fuel tank and tighten the carburetor drain screw. 
  • Disconnect the fuel vent line from the fuel tank vent barb. Use a slip-on vinyl cap to plug the fuel tank vent nipple so that it is air tight. 
  • Disconnect the battery cables, starting with the negative cable.
  • Check tire pressure and inflate to 18-20 PSI or as called for in the owner's manual. 
  • Perform all semi-annual lubrications and make sure engine oil levels meet the owner's manual requirements. 
  • Clean the battery using a battery acid neutralizer (1 cup of baking soda per 1 gallon of water). 
  • Check, clean and treat battery terminal connections with a battery terminal protector spray. 
  • Remove the spark plug and pour 1/2 ounce of SAE 10 weight oil into the engine through the spark plug hole. 
  • Rotate the engine crankshaft by hand several times and then re-install the spark plug. 
  • Do not engage the park brake, but secure the car from rolling.
  • A bag protector should be stored in the DOWN position to reduce risk of the vinyl in the window panel cracking. 
  • The windshield should be stored in the UPRIGHT position.

  • Examine the battery state of charge (SOC) condition. If SOC is weak, charge the battery
  • Turn off all accessories.
  • Set the Forward / Neutral / Reverse control (FNR) to N. 
  • Turn the key to OFF. 
  • Remove the key. Keep key in a safe area. 
  • Put chocks against the wheels. (Do not engage the park brake) 
  • Remove all cargo and personal items.
  • Fill the fuel tank.
  • Add a fuel stabilizer. Refer to the fuel stabilizer manufacturer's instructions.
  • Disconnect the fuel vent line from the fuel tank vent nipple.
  • Plug the fuel tank vent nipple with a slip-on vinyl cap. Make sure that the connection is air tight.
  • Disconnect the battery.
  • Clean the battery.
  • Disconnect the spark plug wire.
  • Use a spark plug socket to remove spark plug.
  • Put 0.5 fl-oz (14.2) of SAE 10 weight oil into the spark plug hole.
  • Turn the engine crankshaft by hand several times.
  • Apply a thin layer of high temperature anti-seize lubricant to the spark plug threads.
  • Use a spark plug socket to install and tighten the spark plug to 20 lb-ft (27 N-m).
  • Connect the spark plug wire.
  • Keep the vehicle in a cool and dry area.
  • Adjust pressure in each tire to recommended tire pressure.
  • Clean the vehicle.

LITHIUM CARS

  • Turn off all electronic accessories.
  • Set the Forward / Neutral / Reverse control (FNR) to N.
  • Turn the key to OFF.
  • Remove the key. Keep key in a safe area.
  • Put chocks against the wheels. (Do not engage the park brake)
  • Remove all cargo and personal items.
  • Set the Run / Tow-Stow switch to TOW/STOW.
  • Keep the vehicle in a cool and dry area.
  • Adjust pressure in each tire to recommended tire pressure.
  • Clean the vehicle.
  • Connect the battery charger.

EFI

Use the following images to assist in long term storage and winterization for your Gas powered Onward.

Step 1) Locate the black multi fuse holder near the solenoid next to the battery.

Step 2) Remove the cover by pushing in the snap lock on the side of the multi fuse holder cap, to expose the 3 fuses inside.

Step 3) Remove the RED 10 AMP Fuse to disable the electronics for winter. We suggest taping fuse to battery, or find a safe place to store. Make sure car is switched to "Maintenance Mode".
